It’s your first day and you arrive at the store for induction. You are super excited to start working with this brand, and you can’t wait to get started. Your manager is taking you through a list of your daily duties for your first two weeks, which includes stocking goods, cleaning the shop floor, and clearing the changing rooms. What do you think of that?

I’m surprised. I expected to be dealing with customers more.

It’s what I expect, newbies always get the jobs no-one else wants to do.

I’m happy to take it as time to learn about how it all works.

You’ve been working in the store for a week now, and you are learning lots about how stock is managed in the stock-room and on the floor. You don’t think it works as well as it could, and think there must be ways that it could be improved to save staff time and effort. What do you do?

Raise the topic with your manager and see if they have any ideas that could make it better.

Come up with a list of suggestions and talk these through with your manager.

Try out your best idea on one area of the stock room and see if it makes a difference.
